The Greenstone Track can be walked one way (2 - 3 Days) or joined with The Caples as a loop track starting and finishing in the same location (4 - 5 Days). Earnslaw Burn Track
The Earnslaw Burn Track can be done as a day walk or an overnight. Most of the track is through Native Beech Forest, before opening up to a beautiful tussock basin. Up the valley around the corner are impressive views of Mt Earnslaw icefall. During wet periods there are often many waterfalls cascading off Mt Earnslaw into the river below. This track does require attention to foot placement, and in the tussock basin especially the ground can be uneven. For overnights there are tent sites at the top of the valley, and a rock bivvy across the river. The bivvy can be hard to find and is located across the river as soon as you emerge from the forest into the open valley. An orange marker up the hill across the river marks the location. After heavy rain the river could be hazardous to cross.
Time: 4 - 6 hours one way, or 8 - 12 Hours Round Trip as a Day Walk
Options: Self Guided Only, Camping (no huts)
Distance to track from Log House: 20 Minute Drive
